Veteran Support & Service Officer Assistance

We Are Here to Help Veterans Find the Right Support

American Legion Post 598 is committed to helping veterans, service members, and their families connect with the resources and support they need.

At this time, Post 598 does not have a dedicated Post Service Officer. However, we still want veterans and families to contact us. If you have questions about benefits, claims, records, local resources, or where to start, we will do our best to help point you in the right direction.

You do not have to figure it out alone.

How Post 598 Can Assist

While we are not currently providing direct accredited claims representation at the Post level, we can help veterans and families take the next step.

We may be able to help with:

  • Connecting you with an accredited American Legion Service Officer

  • Helping you identify the right VA or veteran-support contact

  • Providing general information about available veteran resources

  • Helping you prepare questions before contacting a Service Officer or VA office

  • Referring veterans and families to local, state, or national support programs

  • Sharing information about American Legion membership and community support

  • Helping family members understand where to begin when seeking veteran assistance

Accredited American Legion Service Officers provide free assistance to veterans and families with VA disability claims, education, employment resources, and other veteran benefits topics.

Common Reasons to Contact Us

Please reach out if you need help with questions related to:

  • VA disability claims

  • VA benefits

  • Military records or DD214 questions

  • Survivor or family benefits

  • Burial and memorial benefits

  • Education benefits

  • Local veteran resources

  • Homeless veteran support

  • Veteran crisis resources

Helpful Documents to Have Ready

If you are seeking help with benefits or claims-related questions, it may help to have copies of:

  • DD214 or other discharge paperwork

  • VA decision letters

  • Medical records or treatment notes

  • Marriage, dependent, or survivor documents, if applicable

  • Any previous claim paperwork

  • Current contact information

  • A short written list of your questions

Do not worry if you do not have everything. Start with what you have.

Important Note About Claims Assistance

Post 598 is not currently offering on-site accredited claims representation. For VA claims, appeals, or official benefits representation, veterans should work with an accredited representative, Veterans Service Organization, attorney, or claims agent. VA provides a tool to help veterans find accredited representatives.

The American Legion also provides a way to find an accredited American Legion Service Officer.
